The role

What this position is about

We are looking for a part-time developer or freelancer to improve our accounting software. You will work on accounting workflows within Autaxo: from documents and postings through payment allocation to reconciliation and transfers to tax advisors. The goal is clear, consistent processes, less manual work, and reliable data for our dealership customers.

You combine software development with an interest in business processes. Practical accounting experience is particularly valuable, for example with journal entries, account assignment, open items, or reconciliation. A background in tax is also a good fit. This knowledge is an advantage; a specific accounting or tax qualification is not required.

You will work closely with our development team and founders. Our technical foundation is TypeScript with ZenStack on Google Cloud. We will agree on responsibilities, hours, and compensation based on your experience and availability.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing accounting workflows and implement practical improvements in the software
  • Improve posting logic, account assignment, and links between documents and postings
  • Simplify and automate payment allocation, open items, and reconciliation
  • Optimize DATEV exports and the transfer of accounting data to tax advisors
  • Clarify domain requirements with the team and verify them with clear, meaningful tests

Requirements

  • Practical software development experience, ideally with TypeScript and web applications
  • A careful approach to financial data, calculations, and domain-specific edge cases
  • Ability to understand complex workflows and translate them into maintainable software
  • An independent, structured way of working and enjoyment of development team collaboration
  • Good German for discussions about accounting and tax workflows

Nice to have, but not required

  • Particularly welcome: accounting expertise, such as financial accounting, account assignment, or account reconciliation
  • Experience developing accounting software or business applications
  • Tax knowledge, for example VAT or margin taxation in automotive retail
  • Experience with DATEV, SKR03/SKR04, open items, or digital document workflows
  • Experience with ZenStack, Prisma, or Google Cloud
